Japanese Sumo Association / Futagoyama Memorial Issue
A commemorative Seiko watch by Hattori Seiko, issued by the Japan Sumo Association to mark the retirement of Hanada Katsuki and his appointment as director of the Sumo Museum. Dated with an auspicious January 1993 inscription, the design is by Haruhiko Kawasaki and titled “Rising Sun over Futagoyama”

Dial: Mint condition, Extremely rare and original, The artwork was based on Haruhiko Kawasaki's work ( a famous Japanese painter) The Silver and gold textured dial shows the famous artwork The Rising Sun over Futagoyama.
The watch was made to celebrate the retirement of the Sumo Museum Director Hanada Katsuki ( who retired at 65 years old in January 1993 and lived from 1928-2010)
He was a famous Sumo wrestler who won 10 top division championships and was nick-named "Oni of the Dohyo" ( Demon of the ring) due to his fierce spirit and determination. He then became the director of the Sumo Museum.

Case Back: Beautifully engraved with Japan Sumo Association in Japanese to celebrate and remember his retirement as Director of the Sumo Museum.
Rarity: Approximately only 200 pieces ever produced making this a rare collectors item connecting Japanese watchmaking and fine art and traditional Sumo culture.
